Cultivation fields

Farming is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food. It involve animal husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, beekeeping and horticulture.  Accessibility, affordability and availability of fresh food, vegetables, fruits and meat products through farming can improve food security and food safety. Agriculture is associated with increased consumption of food, fruits and vegetables which decreases risk for disease and can be a cost-effective way to provide citizens with adequate quantity and quality of fresh produce. Soil-less cultivation with hydroponics, aeroponics and limited-space cultivation with vertical garden are also being practiced at NCAT. Also we are providing facilities for extension service using available resources at our farm unit.

Goat farming  (“Farming is not a job but, Way of life”)

NCAT animal husbandry unit maintains different breeds of goat such as Jamunapari,thalichery,varaiyadu. It offers an first hand experience on goat farming and maintenance.

Poly house

A Poly house or shade net is a structure enclosed by agro nets or any other woven material to allow required sunlight, moisture and air to creates an appropriate micro climate condition using drip lines, foggers and humidifiers for plant growth and development. It is also referred as shade net house or net house

The net house is specially designed for protecting plants from excess sunlight and provides the required quantity of sunlight to stimulate the optimum plant growth. Crops in net houses are also protected against damage from birds, insects etc.

This facility at NCAT are used for producing seeding materials of vegetables, fruits, flowering, foliage, medicinal, aromatic and spices.

it is used mainly for protecting seeding materials from pest attack, natural weather disturbances such as wind, rain, hail.

High density planting system

At NCAT, we are maintaining a green ecosystem by planting a wide variety (seventeen) of tree species by providing micro irrigation system. It comprises of food, fuel, fodder, medicinal and aromatic tree species.

Botanical and medicinal cafeteria

 Medicinal cafetaria at NCAT with the following plants has been planted are Periwinkle, Tulsi, Thiruneetrupatchai, Karuntulasi, Menthol, Erukku, Keelanelli, Aavarai, Adathoda, Sirianangai, Thumbai, Omavalli, Maruthani, Hibiscus, Manathakalli, Thothuvellai, Katrazhai, Nilavembu, Pirandai, Poonai, Meesai, Thavasikeerai, Lemongrass, Kesavardini, Sitharathai, Ranakalli,Kandankathiri and Mulkathiri.

Bee keeping unit

Bees of all varieties live on nectar and pollen. Honey bees are social insects that live in colonies. The hive population consists of a single queen, a few hundred drones and thousands of workers. Raising bees is becoming increasingly popular in backyards and farms. It provides additional income along with farm produce.
